Fiesta! Cinco de Mayo

Disneyland Hotel News Mexico

For over 40 years, Cinco de Mayo celebrants have traveled to Anaheim for the massive holiday celebration. What started as a simple gathering in the 1970s has exploded into one of the biggest parties in the country. The holiday, which celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over France in Pueblo, now includes a folkloric dance competition with a $1,000 prize at 5 de Mayo in Anaheim.

Mariachi bands are headed to town, along with 16 soccer teams ready to compete for the title of Fiesta Champion. Over 100,000 people are expected at this massive four-day event stuffed with non-stop entertainment, carnival fun, and of course plenty of mouthwatering cuisine.

Your Cinco de Mayo Guide

5 de Mayo kicks off at La Palma Park on May 3 – 6. However, there’s also the Cinco de Mayo event in nearby Santa Ana. Located on historic Fourth Street from noon – 10 p.m., it’s another option for making the most of this holiday weekend. Both events are family-friendly.

The Society of Hispanic Historical and Ancestral Research group offers a special maternal DNA genealogy event where you can help trace your roots based on science. It happens at the Orange Family History Center as a weekend workshop. Buena Park Library features Cinco de Mayo storytime, a free event on May 5.
